New Year's Eve Party!
Last year we took you on a journey to explore the mysteries of ancient Egypt... This year, we travel to the Far East to discover the dystopian future of the great city of Tokyo. The bullet train departs at 9PM CST on the last day of 2009. | | Thursday, July 23rd, 2009 | | 7:33 am |
DJO2 Back in the Booth @ Chamber - TONIGHT!
The crew at Chamber has graciously asked me to do a guest set tonight! Details: 18+, 21 to drink Doors at 9 9 - 10, FREE admission, $5 after 10 (Also, the best priced drinks in downtown!) I'll go on 11-ish for at least an hour (fair warning if you want to hear everyone but me) Personal Note: One of the main reasons for my retirement from Hard Mondays was to spend more time writing instead of only playing other people's music. Tonight will be my first public venue (CON-goers got a sneak peak) to show off the initial results of that effort, a synth-heavy instrumental inspired by an old Police tune. Come down and let me know what you think, good or bad. See you on the floor, m! >:-) -------- Announcements and playlists at: http://djo2.livejournal.com/ | | Sunday, May 24th, 2009 | | 12:18 pm |

The most idiotic thing I read about today...
... is how our puritanical roots have people tying their "logic" in knots trying to figure out ways to keep people who love each other from getting married. An excerpt from this piece: A lawyer for the transgendered plaintiff in the Littleton case noted the absurdity of the country’s gender laws as they pertain to marriage: “Taking this situation to its logical conclusion, Mrs. Littleton, while in San Antonio, Tex., is a male and has a void marriage; as she travels to Houston, Tex., and enters federal property, she is female and a widow; upon traveling to Kentucky she is female and a widow; but, upon entering Ohio, she is once again male and prohibited from marriage; entering Connecticut, she is again female and may marry; if her travel takes her north to Vermont, she is male and may marry a female; if instead she travels south to New Jersey, she may marry a male.” | | Monday, May 4th, 2009 | | 10:04 am |
Hard Mondays Update
Tonight I'm flying solo as dj-nitrogen is on vacation, so plan accordingly. Next week (11/May) is another Hard 'n' Fetishey (sp?) Hard Monday Then on 18/May, our biggest event of the year... The 6th annual Goth Prom! This year's theme: Alchemy The never-usual collection of guest DJs, giveaways, extended hours, beautiful clothing, and more. And to make this year's Prom even less usual, it'll be my last as a resident DJ at Hard Mondays. After over 10 years sharing the decks with dj-nitrogen, starting from a beach club at the Sprawl of America, to First Avenue and now almost 7 years at The Saloon, it's time for me to pursue other interests. We're trying to work the schedule so I can step down a little early and drink a few rounds in celebration of countless good times. Meet me at the bar! | | Monday, March 23rd, 2009 | | 3:53 pm |
ANNOUNCE: Hard Mondays 23-March-2009
A sneak preview of Goth Prom with a guest set from DJ Big Kev. Our friend Slowdive, the VJ from next door, plugging his new project, Pop, Inc. And most important: dj-nitrogen is an old man today (I can give shit because I'm too close behind him on that score). He'll be splitting the booth early to get lickered up. If he walks out under his own power, I'm holding each and every one of you personally responsible. | | Monday, March 2nd, 2009 | | 7:54 pm |

New Year's Eve Kudos!
I'm not quite recovered from the Egypt 1929 party even though it was 3 days ago, so I'm going to be lazy and not embed links to pictures and such. I do want to throw out HUGE hugs, kisses, pats on the back, high fives, fist bumps, sport chests, etc... to everyone who helped make this New Year's Party the best I've ever attended or helped throw. I'm sure I'll forget someone and I apologize. It is a reflection of my forgetfulness, not your efforts. (Also, it would take far too long to thank everyone for everything they did, so I'm just hitting the highlights.) First of all, to the almost 200 people who came, danced, dressed up, costumed, ate, drank, and were incredibly merry, the biggest thanks of all. Without you there would be no point. It would be a well-decorated and dramatically-lit empty room. Deborah for the original CON party ideas, and the plans for repurposing what we did for that party into this one Skaht for managing the chaos Kristen for the delicious food Dan for the delicious drinks Bahb for the rocking sound system Nick for the space Julie Grind, Nitrogen, DV8, Noise, Fenris, House of Zed, and Anand for 9 hours of music that never repeated, never even overlapped genre, definitely never got stale, and kept people dancing until sunrise Kajal for the dancing The Mummy for the unwrapping Frost for the seance table And all the crew who filled in the gaps we couldn't: working the door, tending the bar, calling cabs for the drunks, decorating the room, and cleaning it all up: Regina, Lexi, Andy, Sam, Boy, Laura, Michael, Craig, and everyone else without whom it couldn't have happened. Thank you all! | | Friday, December 19th, 2008 | | 10:23 pm |

Hard Mondays 15-dec-2008
When it's -10 (-23 if you're not in the US of A) and the city is still clearing snow from a weekend storm, I prepare myself emotionally for a dance floor full of little but tumbleweeds. Last night I was guaranteed to have a few friends out due to a birthday and of course the loyal support of trimmiddew, but that would total about 10 people. Since dj-nitrogen did a last-minute solo last week due to another cold and wet Minneapolis "weather event" keeping our return from Las Vegas from going smoothly, I was all by myself and fully expecting a long and lonely night in the booth. Maybe it was the end of finals. Maybe it was an early onset of cabin fever. Maybe people were anticipating (or dreading) the impending demise of the Bush administration. Maybe it's all the family obligations looming next week. Whatever the reason, it was the busiest night we've had since Hallowe'en, and one of the most fun nights for me in months. ( Very fun playlist. ) | | Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 | | 9:57 pm |
Are you smarter than a... ?
Were you paying attention in High School? Civics TestAccording to this story... "US elected officials scored abysmally on a test measuring their civic knowledge, with an average grade of just 44 percent, the group that organized the exam said Thursday. Ordinary citizens did not fare much better, scoring just 49 percent correct on the 33 exam questions compiled by the Intercollegiate Studies Institute (ISI)." I think of my friends as generally smart people, so post comments with your scores and prove me right. For me: "You answered 31 out of 33 correctly — 93.94 %" - not too shabby! And now for a reality check on the USA
Whatever your political leanings this year, or whatever you may think about General Colin Powell, what he said on Meet the Press Sunday morning is a powerful reminder of what the US of A is supposed to be all about (something that some of us have lost sight of in the heat of the campaign). Ignore the endorsement bit if you must, but I strongly encourage you to read a transcript or watch the interview. The meatiest part is excerpted at Huffington Post along with the picture Powell talks about. That section of the video runs at about 4:28 into the 2nd segment of Powell's appearance. Here are his remarks in reference to people dropping hints that Obama might be a Muslim (after saying, for what must be the 8 billionth time in this campaign, that Obama is a Christian)... "Is there something wrong with being a Muslim in this country? The answer is no. That's not America. Is there something wrong with a seven-year-old Muslim-American kid believing he or she could be president? Yet I have heard senior members of my own party drop the suggestion that he is a Muslim and might have an association with terrorists. This is not the way we should be doing it in America. I feel particularly strong about this because of a picture I saw in a magazine. It was a photo essay about troops who were serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. And one picture at the tail end of this photo essay, was of a mother at Arlington Cemetery and she had her head on the headstone of her son's grave. And as the picture focused in, you could see the writing on the headstone, and it gave his awards - Purple Heart, Bronze Star - showed that he died in Iraq, gave his date of birth, date of death, he was 20 years old. And then at the very top of the head stone, it didn't have a Christian cross. It didn't have a Star of David. It has a crescent and star of the Islamic faith. And his name was Kareem Rashad Sultan Khan. And he was an American. He was born in New Jersey. He was fourteen years old at the time of 9/11, and he waited until he could serve his country and he gave his life." P.S.: I am proud to live in the first Congressional district in the country which understands religious freedom and tolerance enough, and which respects separation of church and state enough, to have elected the first Muslim to a federal office. | | 9:37 pm |
